From the get-go, Garcetti was the person to beat and the race offered no surprises. Greuel campaigned tenaciously and should be proud of her effort.

Many were dismayed by her reliance on PACs funded by public worker unions and the uproar didn't help. But Garcetti was courting the same interests, too. If anything, Greuel displayed a pragmatic streak that could have allowed her to be a strong, effective mayor.

To me, Greuel distinguished herself with the hotel workers wage issue. While critics felt Greuel was cynically taking an over the top populist stand, most of those same anti-Greuel liberals are the first decrying income disparity. So, why attack someone advocating an initiative that you favor? My sense was that Greuel honestly cares about those workers and sees the big picture.

Heart should matter.

There was only 100 General Services Police Officers, at least ten or more left once the merger started. However, those officers are no longer on patrol, they've been regulated to City buildings. So now, LAPD stations have to handle all the calls in the parks, libraries and city faciities without a single additional officer. How do you think thats working out?

Fewer cops? Is this guy kidding? We are already the least policed big city in America! We need MORE cops and we need to back the LAPD in their efforts to keep our streets safe. Stop scapegoating our public employees and focus on the real strain on our city budget and city resources.....ILLEGAL immigration. We have a growing population of illegal immigrant invaders who do not respect our sovereignty, laws, and law enforcement officers and are diminishing the quality of life for our citizens and those who came here the right way. ALL illegals who are arrested(including misdemeanors) should be held and deported to their home countries. Reduce the criminal illegal alien population significantly and maybe the present force of LAPD can maintain the law and order and quality of life our citizens deserve.

LAPD needs to replace some of its inside positions with civilian managers. Example: If the job calls for an Human Resource specialist then someone with an HR background needs to be hired. We need Cops on the street fighting crime. And office people doing office work.

Funny how the politicians who have ruined our City are always the clowns to chime in on important issues. LAPD has saved the City MILLIONS in crime reduction. Every felony crime costs the City millions. LAPD doesn't have 10,000 officers because the Mayor lumped in 250 General Service officers so that doesn't count.

The more Wendy and her supporters go negative the more votes she's losing especially to women. Garcetti got the endorsement of NOW National Organization of Women. Wendy is desperate and her negative tv ads and negative mailers is turning people off on her. If she had something credible to say or knew about the issues she wouldn't need to go like a bull dog on attack mode. The fact she has a Villaraigosa person running her campaign says it all.

this enrages me. I use to give money to emilys list NO MORE. Fine to support Greuel, that's there mandate to support women, but to 1) tear down Garcetti who is a feminist and 2) it's a sexist ad

The United Nations Children’s Fund's annual report of 2013 on child well-being, "Report Card 11", is a comprehensive paper that details the specifics of child welfare, and examines issues from drug use to how many eat breakfast regularly. One of the topics in the study is cannabis use among those aged 11-15.

The study found, quite conclucisively, that Canada has more cannabis consumers in that age range than any other developed country in the world, at 28%. Five other countries had rates above 20% – France, Spain, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and the United States.

The Netherlands (Holland) – with one of the most liberal marijuana policies in the world (they also supply hard-core heroin addicts with free heroin) – was ranked #1 in child well-being. In the Netherlands, usage rates among youth is at 17%, significantly lower than the U.S. and Canada, both of which have much stricter cannabis policies.

In addition, the study found that Portugal, which has decriminalized marijuana, had one of the lowest rates of youth using marijuana in the world, at just 10%, which is much lower than the rate it was before they decriminalized the personal possession of all drugs in 2001.

Nury Martinez states the following on her campaign website: “As a leader on the School Board, Nury has worked to expand access to quality education in historically under-served communities, raise standards for college and career readiness...” But check out the report card for Sun Valley High School in her own neighborhood. Under her “leadership” the school's scores are falling - and failing - across the board. District 6 can’t afford this kind of “leadership.”

How independent can this committee be if it
backs Garcetti? The real question ought
to be, will anyone other than the activists be voting? Neither Garcetti nor Gruel have defined any
reason to be elected. Both candidates
are Democrats with similar views.
Neither candidate has provided a credible plan to balance the city budget
and resolve future pension commitments. Neither
candidate has provided any worthwhile ideas on improving business and job
opportunities in the city. Doug McIntyre
correctly points out that “We're failing in the critical areas of job creation,
middle and upper-middle class flight and education.” The candidates don’t want to talk about these
issues. He is correct in suspecting that
Los Angeles is following Chicago.

Greuel's no dumb cookie. Is the L.A. Chamber of Commerce giving her millions of dollars and tens of thousands of disproportionately influential, self-interested votes, that could swing another low-turnout election?

By "99.9%" ( i.e. 999 out of 1000) does Greuel mean her teeny, tiny 0.1% disagreement is only over the teeny, tiny lawsuit filed by the union, over the teeny, tiny charge that they were denied inclusive voice at the bargaining table?

So, in Greuel Speak-even if none of her 78 "spokespeople" were returning calls-it appears she's saying, "I'm all for this ordinance (wink, wink) but I favor a collective bargaining process where the union can tell us to shove off."

All the Chamber needs to do is ask Greuel a single question:" In your (campaign's) many hours of quid pro quo negotiations with union leaders (for support), did they indicate substantial acceptance with the roll-back in benefits but displeasure merely because the City Council went behind their back OR do the unions want a less fiscally responsible deal, all-together?"

I think the Chamber already knows the answer.

Filtering precincts that polled a minimum 25% for Kevin James and at least 65% against Measure A, gives Republican folks a pretty good idea of where in Los Angeles, they'd feel welcome. Most of the Valley, yes. Much of the Westside (particularly the Palisades), yes. Hip, "eastside" neighborhoods, not so much.
